From Fan Art and Badges to a Studio Rooted in Creativity, Sustainability & Soul

Designz Life didn’t begin as a brand. It began with a feeling—an unshakable desire to create something meaningful, personal, and full of life. In a pre-Etsy India, pre-pop-culture-merch world, Shreya Saha sat in her room in Kolkata, laptop open, tinkering with badge designs and poster layouts. The year was 2013.

There was no business plan then—only a deep love for the worlds of Supernatural, Sherlock Holmes, and cartoons, and a growing fandom community in India with a limited market catering to niche fandom merchandise. Shreya, ever the passionate crafter, stepped in to meet that demand.

Fandom Was the First Spark

Designz Life started with custom fan art badges, posters, and mugs—designed, printed, sometimes painted by hand. Orders came in through fandom groups on Facebook. People didn’t just want “merch”—they wanted something that felt personal, reflective of their identities and obsessions.

After hosting watch parties for two years, in 2015, the first Superlock Fan Convention was organised by Designz Life. This marked the first organised fandom event in the city by fangirls that was more than just a fan meet—with games, discussions, a watch party, food, and customised merchandise all in one vibrant space.

From that seed grew FanVille, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Central Calcutta (2017–2019)—a full-fledged fandom-themed convention series that brought together fans of various genres across books, TV series, movies, games, music, and much more under one roof. It was more than an event—it was a celebration.

Shortly after, during the 2020 pandemic, FanDomain emerged as a curated Facebook community for fandom lovers—another creative ecosystem shaped by her vision.

From Niche to Narrative: The Birth of a Brand

In 2017, a bulk order from the Rotaract Club of Central Calcutta for club badges marked a key turning point: Designz Life began taking institutional and corporate gifting orders, including for NGOs, clubs, workshops, and more. Customisation, attention to detail, and storytelling became its strongest currency.

The “fandom badge girl” soon went on to craft customised gifts, event memorabilia, and handcrafted treasures. Alongside posters and tees, new handcrafted creations bloomed—handmade jewellery, fridge magnets, memory jars, and soon, macramé and candles too.

Studio to Brand: Where We Are Today

What began on a laptop in a quiet den slowly expanded. For nearly a decade, with her family as support, Shreya handcrafted and shipped products from her home workspace. Along with obtaining MSME registration, in 2024, Designz Life opened its first physical studio space—a creative sanctuary where design, curation, packaging, and brainstorming now come together under one roof in Kolkata.

Shreya now works with a growing team of freelancers, crafters, and collaborators, expanding her product lines under the brand name Designs Bliss Life, while continuing to offer custom-crafted gifting solutions for individuals, clubs, corporations, and collectors. Each product—whether fandom-themed or minimalist—is made with intention and designed to add beauty and purpose to the everyday.

Designz Life Today: More Than Just Products

While the roots are firmly planted in handcrafted design and merchandise, Designz Life now encompasses a holistic vision. Having been drawn to healing and spiritual practices since childhood, Shreya began formally studying the mystical sciences in 2012—learning energy healing, card reading, meditation, and breathwork.

This soulful path merged naturally into her creative work, giving rise to Blissful Trails—the extension of the brand that focuses on handmade products with a wellness twist. From soy candles infused with intention to journals designed for healing practices, this branch of the brand reflects the deeper values of mindfulness and soulful living.
